Holiday Traffic in Myrtle Beach SC – Have a Safe Thanksgiving Weekend

by | Nov 23, 2017 | Auto Accidents | 0 comments

According to AAA, this holiday weekend will see the highest number of travelers on the road since 2005:

According to information from AAA, almost 51 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home for the holiday weekend. That’s a 3.3 percent increase over 2016, and the highest Thanksgiving travel volume since 2005. Of that number, 89 percent of all travelers are planning to drive, according to AAA. For those heading to the airport, they’ll pay the cheapest average airfare since 2013. On the opposite end of the traveling spectrum, drivers will pay the highest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2014, according to information from AAA. South Carolina drivers will pay an average of $2.26 at the pump on Wednesday, according to AAA’s daily gas gauge. The national average for Nov. 22 is $2.53.

That’s a lot of people on South Carolina’s highways at what, for many, is one of the most stressful times of the year. Auto accidents and traffic fatalities will be higher across the state – all of us at Coastal Law, LLC want you to be safe, follow the rules of the road, and make it home for the holidays.

Drive Smart and Avoid Accidents

During the holiday traffic boom, try to avoid the most heavily-traveled routes to and from your destination. Although some highways cannot be easily avoided like the interstate if you are traveling long-distance, you may be able to avoid some of the worst hot-spots locally. For example, Highway 501 from Conway to Myrtle Beach, the Carolina Forest Area, and some areas of Highway 17 in Myrtle Beach are extremely congested on a good day and even more so during holiday traffic and at peak traffic hours. Highway 22 from Aynor connects to Highway 31, which provides easy access to most of the Grand Strand from North Myrtle Beach to the southern side of Myrtle Beach – these roads are usually much less traveled than Highway 501 and could be a safer alternative during heavy traffic hours. Take the time to explore these and other less-traveled highways, and avoid unnecessary traffic whenever you can.
